Neglected by the country he served so meritoriously, Alhaji Nojim Adewale Lasisi has transited into eternal glory. Aged 80, he was the very first Nigerian postage stamp designer.
A very hardworking, dedicated and creatively outstanding designer, many of the postage stamps he designed for Nigeria were used for various purposes during and after his active years of service to his motherland.
Unfortunately, like many of our bright, brilliant and dedicated unsung heroes and heroines, Alhaji Lasisi (as he was fondly called by many of us) departed the scene unceremoniously.
He was an active member of his professional Association, the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA). Even after his retirement from active service, he was full of ideas which the government could have tapped into, but in our usual style, we let the ideas die with him.
As the chairman of the estate, he along with others fought for light, water and other social amenities to be provided for the estate through federal government assistance in the 1980s.
It was recorded that he was the first chairman of Federal housing estate Ita-Elega Abeokuta, very good and amazing friendly man. He’s very witty and also posses a fertile reasoning faculty before the spirit of death finally checkmate him and hurriedly parcelled him to the great beyond.
Now that he is gone, will the Federal Government or Ogun State government do something to immortalize him? I wish.
May your soul rest in peace, Alhaji Lasisi, Nigeria’s Doyen of postage stamp design!
