Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, has warned corps members to avoid actions that could expose them to security risks during their Community Development Service (CDS).

Emmanuel made this disclosure at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC permanent camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai on Monday.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mrs Mary Bassey, said the state government would continue to ensure the security of all NYSC members posted to the area.

He said that the government had in its concerted efforts continued to secure the lives and property of everyone living in Akwa Ibom.

“It is my hope that you will key into this vision and avoid every action capable of undermining the peace in the state by avoiding actions that could expose you to security risks.

“Let me use this medium to reiterate my earlier directive that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the State must not reject corps members posted to them under any guise,” Emmanuel said.

Emmanuel reiterated the state government’s commitment to the NYSC scheme, stressing that it would also give good attention to the major policies bordering on corps members.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Julius Amusan, lauded the partnership of the state government with the scheme.

Amusan added that the partnership had helped to reposition the scheme in the state on the right track.

He urged all corps members to put into proper use the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training acquired during the three weeks orientation exercise.

“Permit me to use this medium to commend the efforts of the state government is partnering with us towards the realization of the scheme’s mandate.

”We shall continue to support this administration in the task of taking Akwa Ibom to a higher height,” Amusan said.
