An epoch-making event will take place on Tuesday 3rd December, 2019 with the unveiling of the Maiden Edition of ARCAN Foreign Policy Journal by the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN).

Ambassador Grant Ehiobuche, Publicity Secretary, ARCAN Journal Editorial Board, said in a statement on Monday.
The Journal the first of its kind in the annals of Nigeria’s Foreign Policy published works is a compendium of rich scholarly and highly researched articles that tell the story of Nigeria’s Foreign Service from cradle before independence through the early stages of independent Nigeria, the First Republic, on to the Second Republic and until the current dispensation of President Muhamadu Buhari era.
Richly served and burnished with great accuracy in rendition, the articles truly reflect the events that charted the path for what is today a vibrant Foreign Policy that positions Nigeria as a leader in our continent. This is vividly illustrated in the layout and orderly arrangements of articles rendered in beautiful prose and marked eloquence that compares if not surpass any of its kind in the industry. The Journal compliments information and enriches knowledge on the evolution and operations of the Nigerian Foreign Service.
The Journal opens with the address by Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s Prime Minister, at the United Nations General Assembly on October 7, 1960, that laid out the fundamentals of Nigeria’s Foreign Policy.
This is followed by the account of the personal experiences of some of the founding fathers of Nigeria’s Foreign Service ably referred to as ‘The Twelve Apostles’, an invaluable component of the Journal. These personal narratives attest to the rigorous processes and grounding the first entrants into the Foreign Service had to endure in order to be entrusted with the arduous task of birthing the service.
The midsection of the Journal featured Essays and Articles on Nigeria’s Africa Policy, the Southern Cameroun question, Nigeria’s membership of International Organizations and the vexed issue of Foreign Military Bases in our continent.
The ARCAN portfolio provides an insight into the Association’s reasoned position on major national and international issues particularly Morocco’s quest to join the ECOWAS, our sub-regional organization, and the prevailing security situation in the country and implications for Foreign Policy.
The Journal ends with Personal Tributes and Reminiscences for two of ARCAN’s fallen colleagues that paid their dues at various times in the history of the Nigerian Foreign Service.
The Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN) is delighted to solicit the valued presence of Nigerians, respected opinion leaders as well as members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, the Press, to this ground making an event, the Launching of the Maiden Edition of ARCAN Foreign Policy Journal.
