The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State on Monday honoured Mr Shehu Suleiman, a Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, for accurate reportage.
Others honoured were Miss Rasheedah Makinde of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Mr Musliudeen Adebayo of Daily Post, Mr Kayode Oladosu of NTA, Mrs Abiola Olowe of VON, Mr Akamo Adebayo of New Nigeria and Mr Kunle Ojo of Galaxy TV.
The state Commandant of NSCDC, Iskilu Akinsanya, handed out awards to the journalists at the end of the year party of the corps held at its headquarters in Agodi.
Akinsanya, who paid tributes to NAN, described the agency as a credible media outlet with a wide reach and experienced journalists.
The commandant said that without the support of NAN and other media organizations, the achievements of the corps would not be known to the public.
He also said that the corps had recorded a lot of achievements in 2019 and generated N6.47 million in revenue.
“The Anti-Vandal Unit intercepted three trucks loaded with 33,000 litres of PMS each and arrested a driver at Saki area for bunkering.
“The Disaster Management Unit saved thousands of lives and property in about 700 ghastly road accidents through prompt response of officers.
“The Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit handled 141 cases, resolved 120 and recovered N4 million which have been handed over to the owners,” Akinsanya said.
The commandant further said that the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit treated 130 cases which included rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, unlawful custody, and human trafficking.
He commended the officers for the successes recorded and urged them to build on them in the years ahead.
Declaring the event open, NSCDC Zone F Commandant, ACG Shem Obafaiye, said the country’s problems must be solved by Nigerians.
Obafaiye commended the Oyo State Commandant for the achievements recorded in the state and urged the officers and men not to relent.
