Amotekun: Group gives Tinubu 24 hours to state position

Following the raging controversy on the recently launched Western Nigeria Security Network popularly known as ” Amotekun” by the Southwest Governors, a Lagos based group, the Save Lagos Group (SLG) has challenged the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to let the good people of Yoruba nation know his position on ‘Amotekun’.
The group said that Tinubu could not be claiming to be one of Yoruba leaders and sit on the fence over this germane issue of national importance.
Challenging Tinubu, in a signed statement by the Convener of the group, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman in Lagos on Friday, the group insisted that Tinubu could not be claiming to be Asiwaju of Lagos in Yorubaland without making his position known on the subject matter (“Amotekun”).
Sulaiman who gave Tinubu 24 hours to make his position known to the good people of Yorubaland, declared that supporting the legitimate security Network “Amotekun” could not erode him (Bola Tinubu) of becoming the nation’s President as being claimed in some Northern quarters, particularly, Maiyetti Allah.
He added that if God destined Bola Tinubu to be the President of this country in 2023 and not by fraudulent means, no human being could change the Divine position him.
Recall that on Tuesday this week, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, on behalf of the Federal Government, declared ‘Amotekun’ illegal, threatening that the full course of the law would be applied against anybody promoting the security initiative.
Sulaiman stated further that Yoruba leaders should unite to speak in one voice on the issue, saluting the courage of South-West Governors.
He commended Yoruba leaders and groups among them were: Afenifere, Southern and Middle-Belt organization, Femi Falana, Ayo Adebanjo, Baba Reuben Fasoranti, Professor Wole Soyinka, Aare Gani Adam Olu Falae and others too numerous to mention, that had spoken in support of the creation of “Amotekun”.
According to him, “Without mincing words, this Security Network (Amotekun) is legal, legitimate and lawful and it has come to stay like Civilian JTF, Hisbah Police and other legal security outfits established by State and Local Governments in Nigeria.
“The purported rejection of “Amotekun” by the Federal Government is not federal, unconstitutional and mockery of our tenets of federal Constitutional democracy”.
