The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) says it is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to quickly provide befitting car parks at the various train stations along the Abuja-Kaduna route.

Mr Fidet Okhiria, the NRC’s Managing Director, disclosed this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Abuja.

According to him, at Idu for instance, you know we have the light rail being handled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

“They are the landlords and they said they are to handle the parking space arrangement.

“We brought up the issue before, that we needed to arrange the park quickly so that people can even leave their cars and come back for them later.

“At present, they are doing due diligence to ensure a PPP arrangement is put in place so that cars can park conveniently.

“They, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) will provide the security, collect the money and ensure an effective car park is put in place. I hope that within this year that will be sorted out,” Okhiria said.

On the E-ticketing, Okhiria said measures were in place to ensure it commenced as soon as possible.

He said, “It is in the cabinet office awaiting first reviewer and approval, after that, the lucky winner will be known and we will give him time to mobilize and go-to the site.

“I think the scheduled time afterward is three months. But the beauty of it is that whether E-ticketing or no E-ticketing, more coaches are coming.

“That is the major thing that will solve the issue,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the e-ticketing platform is meant to guarantee orderliness in purchasing tickets at the train stations and address some major security challenges in the country.

It would among other things, also ensure the database of all passengers boarding the train were captured in case of emergencies. (NAN)
