The police, on Thursday, arraigned a 34-year-old woman, Alanza Pamah in a Wuse Zone VI Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly defrauding job seekers of N1.3 million.
Pamah, who resides in Aco Estate, Lugbe, Abuja is charged with three counts of impersonation, criminal breach of trust and criminal intimidation.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Okonkon Udoh, told the court that the complainant, James Owoicho of Wuse Zone 5, Abuja wrote a petition to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Abuja on Jan 23, 2019.
Udoh alleged that the defendant sometime in February 2017 convinced the complainant that she was a sister to the then Minister of Interior and that she was also working directly with the Minister in the ministry.
He further alleged that the defendant, in addition, said job employment existed for applicants willing to pay and she could use her position to influence it.
The prosecutor said the complainant thereafter gave the defendant N1.3 million to secure the job for three applicants.
According to him, the applicants were never given the job nor was their money returned by the defendant.
He said when the complainant persisted in asking for a refund, the defendant threatened to deal with him.
Udoh said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 132, 322 and 379 of the Penal Code Law.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty and her counsel, Celsus Ukpo orally applied for her bail on the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Linda Chidama admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
Chidama, who ordered that the surety must be a civil servant not below GL10, adjourned the case until March 5, for hearing. (NAN)
