COVID-19: Ondo NYSC sets up ‘Corpers’ fund

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ondo has directed all the 18 local government inspectors of the scheme to establish ‘Corpers’ Fund’ for the COVID-19 pandemic in their respective council areas.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Grace Akpabio, on Thursday in Akure.
Akpabio said that the idea was a fall out from the cash donation of March allowance by a corps member, Israel Arogbonlo, to support the state government toward eradicating the pandemic in the state.
She said that the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, while appreciating the corps member, suggested the establishment of the fund.
The state coordinator said that the fund would encourage many other corps members to be part of history.
Akpabio, while outlining the modalities for the fund, said that contributions or donations by corps members should be voluntary and not by compulsion.
“Let me make it abundantly clear to all the zonal and local government inspectors that this noble idea should not be forced on any corps member but a freewill contribution and donation to complement the state government in her fight against COVID-19.
“In view of the above, all zonal and local government inspectors (LGIs) are directed to give this information in their various WhatsApp groups so that interested corps members can voluntarily contribute to the fund,” she said.
Akpabio said that all the records of contributions would be transparently and meticulously kept.
She advised the field officers to involve the leadership of various community development service (CDS) groups in the administration of the monies and donations collected.
Akpabio added that the donations would be collected between now and April end and would be paid into a dedicated account.
She said that the dedicated account had already been made available to the field officers for onward transmission to the corps members.
The state NYSC coordinator said that the donations would be presented by the representatives of the corps members to the governor, as part of efforts to cushion the effects of Coronavirus pin the state.
