In a shocking incident on Monday evening, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers ambushed and shot two traditional rulers in Ekiti State, leaving a community in mourning. The victims were identified as the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Ogunsakin, and the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Olusola.

The attack occurred between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in Ajoni local government area as the monarchs, along with the Alara of Ara-Ekiti, were returning from a security meeting in Irele-Ekiti. The armed assailants intercepted them, leading to a tragic outcome.

Remarkably, the Alara of Ara-Ekiti managed to escape when the gunmen attempted to forcibly take them away. The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in the state and the safety of traditional rulers.

Sunday Abutu, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the unfortunate killing but stated that details of the incident are still sketchy. He assured that the command’s tactical and intelligence teams have been swiftly deployed to the scene, indicating a proactive response to the tragic event.

The assassination of these respected traditional leaders has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
