The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) launched a decisive operation on Sunday, seizing essential goods worth millions of Naira stored in ten warehouses at Dawanau International Commodity Market in Kano metropolis.
In response to reports of food hoarding exacerbating hardship for citizens, the Commission deployed intelligence mechanisms and initiated a manhunt targeting perpetrators. Led by Chairman Barrister Muhyi, PCACC personnel conducted a sweeping crackdown on warehouses engaged in hoarding assorted foodstuff across the state.
During the operation, the warehouses’ owners were conspicuously absent, while those accessible were found stocked with essential commodities such as rice, pasta, sugar, and cooking oil.
Chairman Muhyi emphasized the Commission’s commitment to combatting hoarding and its detrimental impact on commodity prices. He revealed that notices have been issued to the owners of the warehouses, signaling imminent legal action for their illicit activities.
Muhyi underscored the urgency of the situation, citing alarming price hikes in essential commodities, including a doubling in the cost of maize. He condemned the hoarding practices, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated.
