A wave of discontent swept through the city of Ibadan, Oyo State on Monday as citizens voiced their frustrations over the soaring cost of living, food inflation, and prevailing economic challenges.
Gathered in the vibrant Mokola area, a throng of impassioned youths brandished placards adorned with messages demanding an end to the economic strain gripping the nation. Their chants reverberated through the air, echoing sentiments of hardship and disillusionment.
The placards bore poignant messages such as ‘End food hike and inflation’ and ‘The poor is starving’, serving as stark reminders of the struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians amidst rising prices and dwindling purchasing power. Others called upon political leaders, with one reading, ‘Tinubu, don’t forget your promises’.
Amidst the sea of protesters, a contingent of armed policemen stood watch, a testament to the authorities’ vigilance in maintaining peace and order. Despite this, the demonstrators remained resolute, staging a peaceful rally to highlight their grievances.
The protest in Oyo State mirrors similar demonstrations witnessed across the nation, from Kano to Minna, as citizens unite in condemnation of the economic hardships exacerbated by recent policy decisions. The removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange windows have only served to exacerbate the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
