Retired General Yakubu Gowon has called on Nigerians to exercise patience and offer support to the President Bola Tinubu-led administration as it grapples with the multifaceted challenges confronting the nation. Speaking after a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Gowon emphasized that it is premature to expect immediate resolutions to all inherited crises across various sectors.
Acknowledging the criticisms faced by leaders, Gowon reiterated his confidence in the government’s efforts to address the nation’s pressing issues. He stated, “I think the government is trying its best to deal with the various problems of the country. Don’t you worry, you will get criticized but people who get there know better than you know.”
Gowon emphasized the need for Nigerians to allow the administration sufficient time to implement effective solutions, cautioning against premature judgments on its performance. He stressed, “Nigerians, we’ve got to give the President time to get things really done. And it is too early to say absolute result, perfect result will be achieved now.”
Additionally, Gowon disclosed that discussions with President Tinubu also addressed the challenges facing the ECOWAS subregion, underscoring the importance of amicable resolutions. As one of the founding fathers of ECOWAS, Gowon emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts to address regional concerns.
Responding to claims circulating on social media regarding his absence from an ECOWAS event, Gowon clarified that the situation likely arose from miscommunication. He affirmed that the ensuing dialogue with President Tinubu provided an opportunity to address any misunderstandings and reaffirm their commitment to collaborative efforts.
General Yakubu Gowon’s call for patience and support echoes sentiments shared by many Nigerians amidst ongoing national challenges.
