Drama As Passenger Disrupts Ibom Air Flight, Assaults Crew At Lagos Airport

A mild drama unfolded at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday when a female passenger onboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo allegedly assaulted a flight attendant and confronted airport security officials.

This is happening a few days after a similar incident involving the Fuji singer, Kwam 1 at the Nnamdi Azikwe airport in Abuja, where he tried to stop a plane after he was allegedly denied entry because of the alcohol he had on.

Darelasisionline.com noted that the latest one in Lagos, which was shared on X by a user, @OHOgunbiyi, showed an angry passenger, dressed in a white top and black trousers, yelling at officials who attempted to calm her down. In one of the videos that has now gone viral, she appeared to physically attack a female air hostess, with eyewitnesses claiming she slapped the crew member.

It was gathered that the Airport police immediately intervened to douse the tension after the disturbance drew the attention of travellers and staff.

In his reaction to the incident, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, said the disturbance was caused by the passenger’s refusal to comply with crew instructions.

Achimugu called on air travellers to adhere strictly to the instructions given by the cabin crew, particularly routine safety procedures such as switching off mobile devices during takeoff and landing.

“When cabin crew ask you to turn off your phone before takeoff or landing, simply comply. I can’t understand why simple routine issues would lead to incidents like this. “Passengers need to understand they have responsibilities, not just rights. More details will be addressed tomorrow,” Achimugu wrote on X late Sunday.

It was earlier reported that Kwam 1 came under fire for his behaviour with the crew of ValueJet airline. There have been calls for his prosecution on social media. Although, Kwam 1 initially denied trying to stop a plane, he has since tendered an apology to President Tinubu, the ValueJet staff and the Nigerian people.
