APC candidate wins Kwara by-election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adam Rufai, as the winner of the by-election into Patigi constituency in the Kwara House of Assembly. The INEC Returning Officer, Dr Abdulazeez Ishola of the University of Ilorin, declared the result on Saturday in Patigi, headquarters of Patigi Local Government council area of the state. Barring any exigency, the construction of the long-proposed Regional Road in Lekki-Ajah axis in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State will take off before the end of May, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said. The Governor disclosed that all plans had been concluded to mobilize contractors to commence the construction work, but said there was the need to remodel the design and alignment for the road in order to reclaim the right-of-way already encroached on by property developers along the corridor. Malam Abubakar Ya’u from Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi on Saturday got N10 million, two new cars and two Hajj seats for catching the biggest fish weighing 78 kilogramme at the 2020 Argungu fishing festival. The Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) Mr Sunday James disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. The Corps Marshal Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has ordered the field operatives to clampdown on overloaded private school vehicles plying Nigerian roads as part of organized efforts to reduce crashes involving school children. Driver suspected to have been drunk, on Saturday, overran six persons in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta, killing two family members and leaving four others with serious injuries. A source within the community told NAN that the six victims, among them, a 57-year-old woman and her daughter, were returning home after they had gone to clean their local church, ahead of Sunday service. Access Bank Plc on Friday unveiled DiamondXtra season 12 savings promo to boost savings culture and drive Federal Government’s financial inclusion initiative. Mr Victor Etuokwu, the bank’s Executive Director, Retail Banking, said at the launch in Lagos that it would give out N1 billion to customers in season 12.
