The Chairperson of Oyo State Decontamination and Containment Project, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo, said on Friday that the state followed the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines for decontamination of the coronavirus.
Adeyemo, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, was reacting to speculations making the rounds that the required chemical was not being used in the decontamination process.
She said that the speculations were politically motivated, adding that “experts developed and published a protocol in line with WHO guidelines for decontamination of coronavirus contaminated facilities.”
“I do not join issues with faceless people, most likely it is the group that approached the state government for a contract to do this (decontamination),” she said.
She added that the protocol in use was being sent out to religious bodies and other organizations to guide their decontamination activities.
The chairperson, who is also a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Ibadan, said: “Anybody can call themselves experts, let’s see their credentials.
“The state government took this route because the governor is not interested in toying with the lives of the citizenry.
“We are not contractors, just experts offering our service to the government.”
Adeyemo, who sent a copy of the guidelines to NAN, said the same guidelines were being sent out to those who want to decontaminate their facilities.
