Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has delivered a resounding charge to his newly inaugurated cabinet members and Permanent Secretaries, emphasizing the importance of strict implementation and enforcement of state laws to ensure the well-being of Lagos residents in a sane, safe, and secure society.
Governor Sanwo-Olu articulated this vision during his address on Saturday at the ongoing four-day 2023 Onboarding retreat program for members of the State Executive Council, Permanent Secretaries, and agency heads, held in Epe, Lagos. The theme of the retreat, titled “Navigating Government Excellence: Role of Leadership in Ensuring A Greater Lagos Rises,” underscores the administration’s commitment to elevating the quality of governance in the state.
In his impassioned speech, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed the administration’s unwavering commitment to its THEMES+ Agenda for a Greater Lagos, urging the newly appointed officials to hit the ground running and deliver on campaign promises and the dividends of democracy.
Particularly striking in his address was the call for zero tolerance toward law violations, emphasizing that no one should assume that the state’s laws will be overlooked. He urged all members of the cabinet and Permanent Secretaries to uphold the principles of justice and fairness.
“There is going to be zero tolerance. People cannot just assume that our laws will not be obeyed. That is the charge we are giving ourselves here. That is the charge we are taking away from this retreat to further energize our people to ensure that we do what is right without fear or favor,” he declared.
The Governor highlighted the significance of the retreat, which exposed cabinet members to the intricacies of governance, and encouraged cooperation and harmonious work with civil servants across various ministries to achieve desired results.
Governor Sanwo-Olu shared that the retreat featured insightful sessions with former governors, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who offered valuable perspectives on different approaches to governance. He expressed gratitude to the former governors for their contributions.
He emphasized the need for new cabinet members to hit the ground running, acknowledge the weighty responsibilities of their positions, and understand that the expectations of Lagosians are high. Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged to address pressing issues, such as flooding and road maintenance, while emphasizing the importance of residents’ cooperation in achieving a Greater Lagos.
As the retreat draws to a close, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his belief that the participants would emerge better equipped and more committed to delivering a Greater Lagos. He assured Lagosians that the administration would work faster and bolder in the next four years, with the goal of bringing tangible benefits to citizens.
In conclusion, Governor Sanwo-Olu called for collective action and cooperation from all residents to realize the Greater Lagos Rising mantra of the incumbent administration.
