The Ondo State Police have apprehended a 22-year-old man, Bakare Ayobami, for allegedly purchasing a car using a counterfeit bank alert. The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, revealed this development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure.

According to the PPRO, the case of cybercrime was reported to the Police on Oct. 26, 2023, involving Bakare Ayobami from Ode Irele in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State. The incident occurred on Oct. 20, 2023, at approximately 1800 hrs, when Ayobami visited a car stand owned by Mr. Filani Oluwaseun and Mr. Ogbaguwa Oluwasola at Ikare Road, Owo. There, he purportedly bought a Toyota Corolla 2006 model for N4,650,000.00 using a fake bank alert.

Through intelligence gathering, police operatives from the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad successfully apprehended Ayobami Bakare and an accomplice, Abdullahi Abubakar, aged 26, in Ekiti.

The PPRO disclosed that the stolen vehicle was recovered in Osogbo, Osun State. Additionally, another Toyota Camry 2014 model, suspected to be stolen and valued at N6.2 million, was seized from the suspect. The police assure a thorough investigation into the matter.
