UBA NATIONAL ESSAY COMPETITION 2018

UBA National Essay Competition 2018

UBA Foundation, the CRS arm of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, invites applications from Senior Secondary school students in Nigeria for the National Essay Competition.

The UBA National Essay competition provides a competitive platform to develop the intellectual and writing abilities of senior secondary school students in Nigeria. Winners get educational grants to study in any African University of their choice. The competition has been held annually since 2011 with students challenged to write on different engaging topics to test their writing and cognitive skills.

The essay competition is structured in such way that eligible secondary students are expected to send in handwritten entries on the topic “What is the biggest environmental issue you think your generation will face? How can it be avoided and how can it be solved?” to the UBA Foundation’s office in Lagos.

On November 2nd, when entries close, 4 renowned Nigerian Professors will review the entries and select an initial shortlist for further assessment. Three finalists will emerge at the end of the exercise and they will win scholarship prizes that will be utilized for tuition in Nigerian Universities of their choices and automatically become UBA Scholars.

The first prize for the competition is a N2 million educational grant for the winner to study in any African university of his or her choice, a 100% increase from N1m which was awarded last year, while the second and third prizes have increased to N1.5 million and N1m educational grants respectively.

Applicants must be secondary school students, schooling in Nigeria and applications close on 2nd November, 2018.

To apply, qualified candidates must:
1. Attach 1 passport photograph, a photocopy of their original birth certificate or a photocopy of international passport data page.
2. Submit their complete contact information (School Name and Address, Residential Address, Phone number and Email Address)
3. Handwritten entries (not more than 750 words) should be sent to:
UBA Foundation, UBA House, 57 Marina Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State.
Or
Applications can also be sent to any UBA Branch in Nigeria

The educational grant is only applicable to students who intend to study in an African University.

LATE ENTRIES will not be accepted
