Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday presided over the monthly National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Constitutionally, the vice president is the chairman of NEC. The council meeting is held monthly to deliberate on the coordination of economic planning and programmes of various levels of government. NEC comprises the 36 state governors, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Minister of Finance, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and other relevant government officials whose duties hinged on the economy. Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) says some of its customers have been plunged into darkness due to damage of its 33KV feeder located around the ongoing railway construction site near Tejusho Market, Yaba. Mr Godwin Idemudia, EKEDC’s Corporate Communications General Manager, said on Thursday in Lagos that the feeder was damaged due to excavation activities by the firm handling the railway construction. The Senate on Thursday announced the suspension of all public hearings with effect from March 24, over the COVID-19 pandemic. President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who made the announcement shortly after a closed-door session that lasted for over one hour, also said the Senate suspended admission of visitors into the Gallery. Rear Adm. David Adeniran, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy, said the force had done a lot to improve maritime security and protection of Nigeria’s natural resources. A medical researcher, Dr Bamidele Iwalokun, on Thursday called for synergy among health institutions during health emergency like the COVID-19 for effective monitoring, prevention, and management. The Kaduna State High Court on Thursday refused the application of the Union newspaper to recall Gov. Nasir el-rufai, the fifth witness, in the libel suit filed against the newspaper to testify in the matter again.
