Road accident claims 6 lives in Niger
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger says 6 people have died in an accident on Thursday on the outskirts of Lambata -Lapai road of Gurara Local Government Area of the state. The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Joel Dagwa, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Minna that the accident involved a Daf trailer with registration No. WTD 77 XD 555 XX heading to Kano from Lagos State. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Friday, filed an amended three-count charge against Faisal Maina, son of Abdulrasheed, former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team. The charges which were read to Faisal before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, bordered on money laundering and false declaration of assets. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the amended three-count charge. Thousands of air passengers bound for Lagos were this week stranded in various West African countries where their flights were diverted to following reported equipment failure at the MM International Airport Lagos. Initially reported as a weather-related diversion, which caused multiple airlines from the Mideast Europe and North America to be unable to due to poor visibility, investigations revealed that the harmattan alone was not the cause of the diversions. Mr Benedict Agweye, the Head of Forensic, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says Nigerian youths are very important stakeholders in the anti-corruption war. Agweye made the statement during a walk against corruption organized by EFCC in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Calabar on Friday. The Jigawa Government said it has set up a committee to draft an anti-corruption bill. Gov. Muhammad Badaru stated this during the Nigerian Youths Walk Against Corruption in Dutse on Friday, organized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports and National Youths Service Corps (NYSC). The Bayelsa Police Command has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew over violent protests by alleged political supporters in the state. Global Partnership for Education(GPE), a multi-donor funding agent for interventions in basic education in developing countries has extended a grant of125 million dollars to Nigeria to support the development of Basic Education.
