The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday held an anti-corruption rally in Lagos to boost awareness of the fight against corruption. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rally began at the EFCC office, Awolowo Road Ikoyi and moved to Obalende through Tafawa Balewa Square and back to EFCC office. The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service(LIRS) on Friday announced that it had closed 16 companies in the state over alleged failure to remit about N126.19m consumption tax. The organization’s Director of Legal Services, Mr Seyi Alade, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the companies’ tax liabilities were from 2014 to 2016. Alade, who spoke with NAN during LIRS state-wide tax law enforcement exercise, added that the companies were audited for the periods, but had not made the payments to the State Government. National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole has faulted the Supreme Court judgment declaring the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Douye Diri as new Governor-elect in Bayelsa. The Senate of the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) has expelled eight students over alleged misconduct bordering on plagiarism, extortion and examination malpractices. A 31-year-old chef, Innocent Etim, defendant in a defilement case on Tuesday told an FCT High Court, Nyanya, that the alleged victim was ”now rightfully married to me”. The Muslim Community of Oyo State has declared that Operation Amotekun will be a breeding place for anarchy rather than ensuring sustainable peace in the South West.
