Troops Repel Boko Haram attacks in Borno
The Nigerian Army troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have thwarted efforts by the Boko Haram insurgents to attack some soft targets in Borno. The troops have also continued to decimate the insurgent from different encounters across the North East. The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. Tragedy struck in Bauchi on Friday when a jealous man, simply identified as ‘Solomon’ stabbed his girlfriend, Patience Zakkari, to death for picking a phone call from another man. Fidelity Bank Plc on Saturday said there was a need for youth empowerment to curb crime and unemployment in the country. PDP wins Kaduna Assembly seat
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Mrs Comfort Amwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the rerun election for Sanga constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly. The Returning Officer, Salihu Kargi of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria who announced the results in Gwantu on Sunday, said Amwe polled 19,815 votes to defeat Haliru Gambo-Dangana of the APC who scored 19,688 votes. The rerun election was conducted in 14 polling units in the local government.
Alhaji Madaki Gololo, candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), has emerged winner of Saturday’s rerun elections for Gamawa Federal Constituency in Bauchi state. Announcing the result in Gamawa town on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Dr Abubakar Mayin of Federal University, Dutse, said Gololo polled 21,223 votes to defeat his rival, Isa Wabu of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who secured 15,004 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Alex Egbonna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the House of Representatives election for Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency in Cross River. Dr Alalibo Johnson, State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), announced the result on Sunday at the collation center in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area.
