Minister of Works David Umahi has said that the South-East zone of Nigeria would not be part of any protest against President Bola Tinubu. American President, Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19, says the president and CEO of UnidosUS, Janet Murguía. I was just on the phone with President Biden. And he shared his deep disappointment at not being able to join us this afternoon. “The president has been at many events as we all know and he just tested positive for Covid,” Murguía told attendees. President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said Walson-Jack’s appointment takes effect on August 14, 2024. Mrs Walson-Jack was appointed Federal Permanent Secretary in 2017 and has served in several ministries. The International Monetary Fund yesterday downgraded its forecast for Nigeria’s economic growth in 2024 to 3.1 per cent citing weaker growth recorded in the first quarter of the year, Q1’24. The new forecast was contained in the July 2024 World Economic Outlook of the IMF released, yesterday. The downgrade represents 0.2 percentage points below the earlier forecast of 3.3 per cent. The downgrade followed weaker-than-expected Gross Domestic Product, GDP, and growth recorded by the country in Q1’23. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, on Tuesday, said it has recorded 3,623 suspected Cholera cases and 103 deaths across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory as of July 15, 2024. The Director General of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja, stated that the current outbreak had spread to 187 local government areas, with a cumulative case fatality rate of 2.8 per cent since the beginning of the year. The Federal Government has predicted that 94 towns are at risk of a five-day flooding beginning Tuesday, July 16, and ending on July 20, 2024. The Minister of State of Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako, disclosed this to The PUNCH on Tuesday. Salako said the identified locations and their environs would likely witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flood within the prediction period.
