The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said on Monday that 18 ships were discharging general cargo, containers, buckwheat, bulk sugar, petrol, and base oil at the Lagos ports. The NPA made this known in its publication, `Shipping Position’, a copy of which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. According to the publication, 18 other ships had arrived at the ports, waiting to berth with containers and fuel. The Joint Task Force (JFT), code-named Operation Delta Safe, and the Nigerian Navy on Monday visited former President Goodluck Jonathan’s residence in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa. The visit was to ascertain the level of damage following attack on the former president’s residence by unknown gunmen on Christmas eve. They said the visit was also to find necessary solution to prevent the reoccurrence of such attacks. The government says it is studying the situation on change of West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) currency, Eco, to be used as ECOWAS single currency. Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zamfara State Council, has called on the state government to support members of association especially in promoting training. The Nigerian Stock Exchange opened the last trading week for 2019 on Monday with a growth of 0.73 per cent following investors’ interest in heavyweight stocks. Specifically, the All-Share Index extended positive growth with 192.86 points or 0.73 per cent to close at 26,609.34 against 26,416.48 on Friday. Also, the market capitalization which opened at N12.752 trillion rose by N94 billion to close at N12.846 trillion. The dissolved local government functionaries in Oyo State have warned the newly-inaugurated local government caretaker chairmen against being part of an illegality allegedly perpetrated by the state government. The Zamfara Government says it has uncovered a 119-year-old (name withheld) on its payroll while trying to sanitize its wage bill. The state Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Rabiu Garba, disclosed this at a news conference on Sunday in Gusau, saying that the centenarian is surprisingly collecting salary. Abayomi Adesanya, the Caretaker Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday intervened in the face-off among members of the Ilutitun branch of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
