President Muhammadu has approved the appointment of Mr Sarki Auwalu as substantive Director, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) for an initial term of four years. Mr Auwalu, a chemical engineer, has been a driving force of the DPR, which he joined in 1998 as Principal Chemical Engineer. The new Director is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and had his post-graduate studies at Bayero University, Kano, and PETRAD Norway, PetroSkill USA, among other institutions. Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday signed the 2020 Appropriation bill into law, with a promise to deliver his electioneering promises to the people of the State. The Senate on Wednesday approved the sum of N140,383,591,000 for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for the 2020 fiscal year. The approval came following consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Communications during plenary. Chairman of the Communications Committee, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, while giving a breakdown of the Commission’s total expenditure for the year 2020, said that N39,297,044,000 is for recurrent expenditure and N20,863,699,000 for special projects. Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara on Wednesday presented a sum of N162 billion as a 2020 budget estimate for the state before the state House of Assembly. The budget, tagged “Budget of Reconstruction and Reformation has 53 per cent capital expenditure while recurrent expenditure stands at 47 per cent of the total budget estimate. The Oyo/Osun Command of Nigeria Customs Service says it seized 2,540 bags of 50kg foreign rice within the period of the partial closure of the border and generated N34.6 billion between January and November. The Comptroller of the command, Abdullahi Zulkifli, stated this in Ibadan on Wednesday at the command’s end of the year press briefing. The House of Representatives has urged the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to begin public enlightenment and awareness campaigns aimed at discouraging liquor stores, from selling alcohol children less than 18 years. The Ogun Property Investment Corporation (OPIC) said it would spend over N4.1billion on the construction of 401 housing units of two and three-bedroom bungalows in 2020. Mrs Ibiyemi Adesoye, Acting Managing Director of OPIC, disclosed this during the 2020 budget defence of the corporation before Ogun State House of Assembly in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
