A Kano High Court presided over by Justice Usman Na’Abba on Thursday dissolved the four additional emirates and first-class emirs created by the Kano State Government. Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, had on May 8, assented to a controversial law establishing four additional emirates with first-class emirs in Bichi, Rano, Karaye and Gaya. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with speakers of the 36 states Houses of Assembly of the federation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has urged the National Assembly probe the restoration of the $195 million Coastal Waterways Security contract awarded by the Ministry of Transport. The Chairman, House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Rep. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (APC-Ondo) has said that the Commission had been spending illegally and without appropriation for 11 months. This is even as he said that the NDDC had been running foul of the appropriation laws for the past 14 months as it had yet to submit any budget proposal to the National Assembly for approval since Sept. 2018. ECOWAS decries conflicts in the region
The ECOWAS Parliament and Commission on Wednesday raised concerns over the security challenges in the region. It called for collective efforts to restore stability in the region, especially the political crisis in Guinea Bissau. The Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Moustapha Cisse-Lo, said this at the Second Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Parliament held in Abuja. VP Osinbajo presides over NEC meeting
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday presided over the monthly National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Nigeria’s Constitution provides that the vice president is the Chairman of NEC. The council meeting is held monthly to deliberate on the coordination of the economic planning efforts and economic programmes of the various levels of government. NEC comprises the 36 state governors, the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, minister of finance, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and other government officials as well as agencies involved in managing the economy.
Gov. Ayade presents N1.1trn budget for 2020
Cross River Governor Ben Ayade on Thursday presented a budget of N1.1trillion for 2020 to the State House of Assembly. The budget, tagged “Budget of Olimpotic Meristemasis”, has a capital expenditure of N911 billion representing 82.8 per cent and a recurrent expenditure of N188 billion, representing 17.2 per cent.
