The Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi, on Friday affirmed the election of Dr Richard Gbande of the PDP as member representing Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency in Benue. The 22-month tension-soaked trial of Adegboyega Adenekan, a Supervisor of the Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City, Lagos State, ended on Thursday with a court verdict that he should spend 60 years in prison for defiling a two-year-old pupil of the school. Justice Sybil Nwaka of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court handed down the judgement. Forty-seven-year-old Adenekan, who was supervising the primary section of the Chrisland School at the time of the crime, was arraigned on Jan. 29, 2018. The Nigerian Army says its troops have continued to raid the hideouts of criminal insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements nationwide with remarkable successes. The Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. Iliyasu said that one of such operations involved troops of 342 Artillery Regiment that raided a suspected kidnappers’ den at Ihie Community in Ohaji/Egbema Locl Gobernment Areaa of Imo. Religious leaders in Kogi have warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies not to compromise the Nov.16 governorship election in the state. The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), on Friday, graduated 141 personnel of Nigerian Army, comprising 49 officers and 92 soldiers in three major indigenous Nigerian languages. The language proficiency course in Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba was conducted in collaboration with a leading study institution, Laclic Services Ltd, for a duration of two months at the centre.
