An FCT High Court Maitama on Tuesday fixed Oct. 16,  for Maryam Sanda, accused of killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, to open her defence. The matter was adjourned at the instance of  Justice Yusuf Halilu. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, re-arraigned Abdullahi Babalele, said to be son-in-law to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, over alleged money laundering charges. The EFCC accused Babalele of allegedly laundering about 140,000 dollars, in the build-up to the last general elections. The defendant was first arraigned on Aug. 14, during the court’s vacation before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, who sat as vacation judge. A 34-year-old contribution collector, Happy Ademosun, who allegedly defrauded 17 traders of N1.6 million under false pretences, was on Tuesday docked before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court. Ademosun, whose residential address was not stated, is standing trial on a 32-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing. The Prosecutor, Sgt. A 56-year-old man, Obideyi Omasuyi, on Tuesday appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court accused of defrauding a man of N270,000, on the pretext of selling a parcel of land to him. Obideyi, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him. The Prosecutor, Insp. An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has ordered that a 32-year-old man, Martin Urowanyina,who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s nine-year-old daughter, be remanded in a correctional centre, pending legal advice. Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi, who did not take the plea of Urowanyina, ordered the police to return the case file to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. Two officers of the Nigerian Police attached to the Rivers state command have been abducted by gunmen at Ngor, Headquarters of Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State. Reports say the officers were abducted on Monday, Oct. 7, and whisked to an unknown location. As at the time of this report, the true identities of the police officers were yet to be ascertained.
