By Dare Lasisi.
As the clock ticked 11.45pm on this fateful Friday, Bamosi returned to his two-bedroom apartment in Okokomaiko, Lagos suburb like a drunk man.
He carefully opened the front door not to disturb his frustrated wife and hungry six-year-old daughter.
The vigilante group in his area recognised him as a night ‘wakabout’ man. As long as Bamosi not causing any problem in the neighbourhood, nothing to worry about.
He started drinking heavily after the loss of his job in a Chinese company in Lagos. It was a hopeless situation in a developing country like Nigeria.
The wife initially pretended not aware of his discreet entry into the bedroom.
“Bamosi! When will you stop roaming about the streets of Lagos at night like a cursed soul?”, the wife exploded like a bomb.
Still recovering from the ‘over-dose’ of alcohol, Bamosi replied the angry wife after coughing two times.
“This woman! Don’t disturb my life again, I have just one life to live. I cannot kill myself because I was unlawfully sacked by my Chinese boss.”
“You’re a lazy man! Why not look for another job seven months ago that your Chinese boss sacked you? Our house rent is due next week on Thursday. What can I tell the landlady again?
“Mind your language! Don’t insult me. When I was working, I always give you enough money to look after yourself and our daughter.I have all the records of the bank transactions. No condition is permanent in this life, not even tribal marks which can be erased through medical surgery.”
The wife ignored Bamosi’s rants and returned to the other room and he slept on the sofa at the sitting room, snoring like a fairly used truck with a damaged silencer.
