Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno on Monday invited ex-military generals and their counterparts from the Police, Department of State Service (DSS) and other paramilitary organizations who are indigenes of the state for a strategy meeting to end the insurgency.
Mr Isa Gusau, the Special Adviser on Public Relations and Communications to the governor, disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri.
Gusau said the governor took the decision when he hosted the first, in a series of subsequent consultative meetings, with some stakeholders and Borno indigenes working at different federal establishments in Abuja.
“The Governor was particular about Borno indigenes that had held operational positions in security agencies.
“The Governor’s invitation to retired senior security personnel was in response to comment by a retired Brigadier-General from Borno state, who at the meeting, offered to contribute with strategies that could help the government in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram,’’ he said.
Gusau also said Zulum hoped to meet the retired senior security officers as soon as possible at a suitable location.
“Besides the issue of security, the governor is challenging all participants to make contributions through other means that can help the state and its people in different areas of development,’’ Gusau said.
He explained that the governor believed the security situation and other concerns of the state could be solved when the people agreed to work together. (NAN)
