Budget: Lagos council gives road, education, health priority in 2020

Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, says the provision of more link roads, education, and community health facilities would be the council’s top priorities in 2020.

The council Chairman, Dr Augustine Arogundade, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

Arogundade said that the council had begun consultations with the stakeholders before coming out with the council budget for 2020.

The chairman said that the council was looking at a budget of N1.8 billion in 2020 from the N1.5 billion budgeted in 2019.

He said that the budget would have been higher, if not for the demolition and rebuilding of some markets in the council area.

These, according to him, had affected the revenue generation of the council.

Arogundade said that the demolition of the popular Katangowa Market at Super area and restriction on commercial motorcycles and tricycles operations had affected the revenue of the council.

He added that the council would restrategize by looking at other areas to generate revenue.

The chairman said that the budget, which would be tagged: “Budget of Consolidation” would focus more on these projects to meet the aspirations of people.

“Besides, there are some ongoing projects that must be completed before we start another new project.

“The council held meetings with the stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, traders, among others, and everyone came with their requests, so we will look at them and prioritized them.

“Our resources may not be able to carry everything at the same time, that’s why the LCDA will look at the projects that will bring more impact to the residents.

“Some roads and schools that are under construction, such as Ajakaiye, Arogundade, and Army Children roads and about five different schools that are being rehabilitated, will be completed,” he said. (NAN)
