The overseer of the Lafia North Development Area, Sulieman Mohammed Agyo and the registrar of Nasarawa state polytechnic, Murhtar Wakeel have been apprehended by the police for breaking the state order of social distancing.

The overseer’s grand wedding which took place on Saturday 11th April 2020 at Lungun Wambai Lafia, the state capital had in attendance more than a handful of people, flouting the social distancing order by the state Governor.

The duo were picked up at the venue of the ceremony by the police in Lafia, where the security agencies felt they were going against the state social distancing rules.

Prompt News gathered that the two have passed the night in detention at “A” Division and investigation is ongoing.

It was gathered that the national vice chairman of the APC in the North Central, Alhaji Sulieman Wambai and the overseer of Lafia East Development Area, Alhaji Shuaibu Buba who also attended the wedding are said to be at large.

As at the time of writing this report, the police are combing every nook and cranny in the state in search of the defaulters.

The two officials spent a whole night in police detention as all their efforts to get in touch with the governor to direct their release failed as the governor is said to have insisted that full wrath of the law must take its course.

It can be recalled that Governor Sule had suspended all wedding and naming ceremonies in addition to banning all social gatherings in the state to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The Governor instructed that “Where it is absolutely necessary to hold such ceremonies, attendance should be restricted to members of the immediate family of not more than 20 people”.

The state commissioner of police, Bola Longe confirmed the arrest while speaking with Journalists in his official residence in Lafia yesterday. He said the two officials will be prosecuted accordingly as no one is above the law.

“The police is working hard to arrest all those who attended the marriage ceremony as identified in the pictures of the wedding for prosecution”.
