Expectedly, citizens in Nigeria’s political and economic capital cities of Abuja and Lagos crowded the banks and other public places as the easing of lockdown order takes effect nationwide from today (Monday).
The Federal Government has last week announced the gradual easing of Covid-19 lockdown after one month of stay-at-home order imposed on Lagos and Ogun states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
But the gradual reopening of businesses and government offices in Abuja and Lagos turned chaotic as the crowd that was witnessed at public places like banks, markets, and shopping centres was unprecedented.
Prompt News can confirm that there was a crowd surge in most of the banks both in and outside Abuja metropolis just as the banks in the satellite towns of Kubwa, Lugbe, Gudu, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Karishi witnessed large numbers of customers.

The crowd at Bank area, Garki Area 3, Abuja on Monday.
It was the same situation in the Central Business District (CBD) and places like Wuse, Asokoro., Maitama, Apo District, and Garki especially in busy Area 3 where many bank branches are concentrated.
Meanwhile, the story is the same in Lagos metropolitan city as passengers crowded the mass transit buses and the ubiquitous yellow buses popularly called Danfo which is the first choice of Lagosians.
The torrential downpour which caught up with commuters during the day made life more difficult in Lagos as people crowded the bus stops trying to hide from the rains.
Like in Abuja, the citizens are not observing the recommended health protocol including Physical Distancing.
Many people were also seen not wearing face masks in Lagos despite the warning by relevant federal and state government agencies.
