By Harry Awurumibe, State House, Abuja

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari today (Wednesday) in Abuja approved the sum of Four Billion and Forty-Seven Million (N4.047B) for the construction of 18 kilometres roads linking Kwara and Osun states.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola told State House Correspondents shortly after the weekly FEC meeting that his ministry presented two memoranda to the council which was approved, adding that the first memorandum was for the construction of Ajaseipo to Offa roads linking Kwara and Osun states.
The second memorandum he said was for the construction of the Oshogbo to Ilesa road.

According to Fashola, the two memoranda presented towards achieving the objective of completing some of the inherited roads, the relate first to the Ajasipo-Offa- Irinle roads in Kwara state. That is the road that connects Kwara to Osun.

“The approval was for the 18 kilometres section that completes the entire 26 kilometres roads. Now all that was awarded by the previous administration was just 8 kilometres of the roads.

“So what we (FG) we have done now is that the entire 26 kilometres roads are now under construction for the purpose of completion.

“And so that comes to the sum of Four Billion and Forty-Seven Million Naira only. So the previous contact is going on so this is an addendum.

“The second road is the Oshogbo to Ilesa road that was also awarded in 2012, it was not funded and so it has been going “fix and start” but now we have done 76% of the entire project and what we (FG) awarded today was a variation of N825 million. And this is to expand the road by original contract by three kilometres to enable the road link into Oshogbo town.

“The built-up area because It is supposed to bypass the town so this is the 3.5 kilometres the Governor requested when I went on a nationwide road tour. That should we should please help them connect it to Oshogbo town.

“So going through procurement and all of that so we finally got the approval today for N845m to include that part. So that is it”, Fashola concluded.

Also speaking, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Musa Nanono said his ministry got the approval to procure some raw materials for the production of vaccines for use against animal diseases.

Said he “a contract of N244m was approved by FEC for the purchase of raw materials for the production of vaccines for use against animal disease, poultry, dogs and others like that”.
