He said it is pertinent to carry out the assessment survey of the capacity of the stakeholders in peacebuilding with a view of identifying gaps and providing the support that would bridge the gaps.

He said when we say capacity building for peacebuilding, we simply mean prevention of conflict, “how do we build people’s capacity for them to be able to see or know if something dangerous is about to happen”.

Dr. Bakut said the IPCR decided to organized a baseline survey to know the types of capacity the stakeholders in peacebuilding have, what they are doing how they are doing it and the people they are relating with.  “When we know what they are doing it would give us vital information on the types of interventions they required”

In a related development, the Director-General Institute, represented by Associate Professor, Research, IPCR, Joseph Ochogwu said that capacity building is a key strategy in conflict management, prevention, and resolution.

He was speaking on Tuesday 10th December, 2019 at a Seminar on building Capacity for Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution in Abuja.

He said the essence of the seminar was to discuss issues relating to capacity building for peacebuilding.

He said peace is the multi-sectorial matter that requires all stakeholders to be on track on the process of capacity building for peacebuilding.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Gabriel Aduda commended the IPCR for organizing such a seminar aimed at improving the capacity of stakeholders in Peacebuilding.
