The Lagos State Government has pledged to ensure justice is served in the tragic case of a 16-year-old student from Araromi-Ilogbo Senior Secondary School, Oko-Afo, Badagry, who was allegedly flogged to death by a teacher. The commitment came during a condolence visit led by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, and a delegation from the Lagos State Government on Monday.
The victim, identified as David Babadipo, an SS 1 student, was reportedly beaten to death by a teacher named Oluwale on January 25. Babadipo was confirmed dead on arrival at a private hospital, sparking a protest by his fellow students at the school who demanded justice for their deceased classmate.
Commissioner Alli-Balogun expressed deep sadness over the painful loss and assured the grieving parents that the government would thoroughly investigate the incident to uncover the actual cause of Babadipo’s death. The commissioner vowed to cooperate with the police in the investigation and promised the family the ministry’s full support during this challenging time.
The delegation from the Lagos State Government included the Chairman of the Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Mr. Samson Olatunde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, and the Commissioner IV in the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Idowu Abimbola.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of students in schools, prompting authorities to take swift action to ensure accountability and justice.
