The Lagos State Government on Wednesday inaugurated 74 lock-up shops for the use of traders in Agege area and its environs.
Inaugurating the shops in Lagos, Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu, said that the project was put in place to provide the right environment for traders to do their businesses and enhance economic activities in the area.
Sanwoolu, represented by his Special Adviser on Parastatals Monitoring, Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, said that with many projects on the ground, Agege would soon become the economic hub in the state.
“Agege is one of the fast-developing local governments in the state and by the time the overhead bridge is completed, Agege is going to witness a new face of development.
“Many roads are undergoing construction to complement the bridge, and by the time the bridge project is completed, the entire Agege Community will become the economic hub in the state,” he said.
According to him, the Agege Stadium, recently upgraded by the state government, had stimulated a lot of business activities in the area, boosting patronage of traders.
The governor also said that the ongoing construction of Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge rail line would also stimulate business activities in the area.
Sanwo-Olu said that the state government was working tirelessly to ensure that some of the alternative roads within the council area were rehabilitated for smooth vehicular movement.
“At least, by the middle of this year when the state and local projects will be completed, they will together, uplift the development, not only in the council but also the state,” he said.
The governor, however, appealed to motorists along the corridor to exercise patience on the road, especially where construction was ongoing to ensure the free flow of traffic.
In his remarks, Mr Ganiyu Egunjobi, Chairman, Agege Local Government Area, said that apart from the lock-up shops, the council legislative building was nearing completion and would be inaugurated soon.
“We are working hard to ensure that residents enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“Traders in the community will benefit from the lock-up shops which will serve as means of income to the beneficiaries.
“Many projects are ongoing like road construction and rehabilitation across the council area for the benefit of the residents,” Egunjobi said. (NAN)
