IBADAN –  Barely three weeks after a reporter was sacked by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, for filling ‘fake news’, the agency has sanctioned another two reporters.
Prompt News Online gathered exclusively that the two reporters are from the Agency’s office in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
It was learnt that the duo filled separate reports that turned out to be fake news after investigation, prompting the management to summarily dismissed one and asked the other to proceed on suspension.
The management of NAN is said to be determined to get rid of what is now known as ‘Fake News Syndrome’ in NAN.
“It is an embarrassment if NAN will be churning out fake news to our subscribers and the public. 
“So, we are battling hard to weed out the syndrome from our system, a NAN official who pleaded annonimity told Prompt News Online.
Recall that recently, the Agency’s reporter in Benue state, Bridget Kyado, was sacked for filling a report titled, ‘Akume, a great asset to Benue – Ortom’ that turned out to be a fake news after investigation by the NAN management.
“Truth and integrity matter in our business of reporting. Fiction has no place here. Most important, the reputation of the 40 year-old agency is at stake.

“We have a duty to continue to sustain the integrity of the News Agency of Nigeria,” Mr Bayo Onanuga, NAN Managing Director had said after the Benue correspondent was sacked.
