Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Monday called on the Federal Government (FG) to reimburse state governments for Federal roads repaired by them.
Akeredolu made the call in Akure when Gbemisola Saraki, Minister of State for Transportation, paid him a courtesy visit.
He explained that the claims being made by the Ondo state were about N7 billion.
“I’m sure that after verification, and deductions here and there, we should be able to have over N5 billion paid back to the state.
“These monies being claimed include those spent by past and this present administration on road rehabilitation and construction.
“We have claims on places such as Aboto – Olokola; Ore – Okitipupa; Akure – Owo; Akungba – Ikare; and others.
“If these monies are paid back to the state, they would go a long way to assist in other projects and arrears of salaries,” he said.
According to Akeredolu, all state governments were worried when the news release came out that no state government will be reimbursed for the repair of FG roads.
Earlier, Saraki said she was on an official visit from the Federal Executive Council on verification of road projects done by the state government.
She explained that some of the projects were rehabilitated as far back as 2007; hence the need for the verification exercise by her adding that she was committed to carrying out her duties fairly. (NAN)
