Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced plans to kick-start the construction of the long-awaited 4th Mainland Bridge in March 2024. The governor made this declaration during a working visit to China, where he engaged with officials and emphasized the urgency of the project’s commencement.
While on a trip from Beijing to Dalian, renowned for its coastline and aquatic products, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his commitment to delivering the Fourth Mainland Bridge, describing it as one of his administration’s legacy projects. He called on the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), to ensure that ground-breaking for the project takes place as scheduled.
Expressing the importance of the bridge to Lagosians, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need to expedite the project despite funding challenges. He underscored the significance of collaboration with CCECC to mobilize resources and initiate construction promptly.
With only three years left in his tenure, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the personal importance of delivering the Fourth Mainland Bridge, acknowledging the project’s longstanding anticipation and the imperative to move forward swiftly.
Addressing the timeline for the project, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his desire to break ground by March or April, aligning with his commitment to commence construction before the end of the first quarter of 2024. He emphasized the pivotal role of CCECC in achieving this milestone and expressed optimism about the transformative impact of the bridge on Lagos State.
As preparations intensify for the commencement of construction, stakeholders eagerly anticipate the realization of the Fourth Mainland Bridge, poised to alleviate traffic congestion and bolster connectivity in Lagos State.
