Nigeria’s Senate President, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan has solicited for the full implementation of Budget 2020 to ensure that ordinary citizens of Nigeria get the benefits of the budget.
Speaking at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, Abuja shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the budget into law today, Lawan disclosed that his call stems from the fact that the National Assembly has done the needful by among other things passed the Amendment to the Production Sharing Contract to rake in more revenues for government to fund the budget 2020.
According to the Senate President “we have also passed the Amendment to the Production Sharing Contract. We all know that the Production Sharing Contract never funded our budgets in the past. So we (NASS) have done something in that regard.
” That will also a lot more revenues for the government…In 2019, the sum of N329 billion was earmarked but we (Nigeria) could no get anything”, he said.
Lawan, however, said “Next year (2020) by the special grace of God, because of the Amendment, we are going to get close to two billion dollars ($2 billion). And that is going to be a marked difference from what it used to be. So we are going to work on the revenue generation, collections and remittance”.
He finally said, ” We are all determined on both sides to ensure that the budget 2020 is implemented fully. And we believe that the Nigerian public will be in support of these.
