President Bola Tinubu has awarded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, with national recognition for his significant contributions to revenue generation and trade facilitation. The accolade, titled ‘Outstanding Revenue Collection,’ was presented at the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja over the weekend.
Since his appointment in June 2023, Adeniyi has led the Customs Service to achieve remarkable successes in revenue collection, which garnered him this prestigious award.
The ceremony, aimed at promoting a culture of recognition and accountability in public service, saw Vice President Kashim Shettima representing President Tinubu, who highlighted the importance of public service and its direct impact on national development.
In his address, Vice President Shettima stressed that public institutions should operate not as personal enterprises but as entities serving the Nigerian populace.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and transparency in public service.
Responding to the honour, CGC Adeniyi expressed his gratitude and viewed the recognition as a challenge to further elevate the performance of the Customs Service.
“This national recognition is a challenge for the Service to double its efforts in making this country proud. It motivates public officials to dedicate themselves and perform diligently in office,” said Adeniyi.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, also addressed the recipients, urging them to persist in their exemplary service.
He noted that the awardees were selected based on rigorous and objective criteria, reflecting the high standards expected from leaders in both the public and private sectors.
