The Sokoto Fire Service has confirmed a fire outbreak that gutted part of the old market in Sokoto which destroyed about 20 shops. Mr Mustapha Abubakar, the Head of Operations in Sokoto Fire Service, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that the inferno started at about 11:00 p.m on Monday and lasted till about 2:00 a.m on Tuesday. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has rescheduled its first meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) for 2020. According to a terse statement by the Director of Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, the meeting earlier slated to hold on Monday and Tuesday, January 20 and 21, 2020, respectively, has now been rescheduled for Thursday and Friday, January 23 and 24, 2020. “The CBN regrets any inconvenience this change may have caused its stakeholders and the general public,” Okorafor stated.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has declared that his government would not demolish any property to facilitate road construction without adequately engaging with the owners and paying due compensations.
