Sixteen persons in Jigawa were arrested over alleged armed robbery, shop breaking, criminal trespass, car, and motorcycle theft, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Usaman Gomna, has said. Gomna told newsmen in Dutse on Monday that the suspects were arrested between Nov. 18 and Dec. 31, 2019 in various parts of the state. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has inspected some completed and ongoing projects at 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos. Maj. Three security guards: Milacasupe Jackson, 28, Peter Alfons, 25, and Mustapha Usman, 27, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a car valued N2.6 million. The defendants are being tried for conspiracy and stealing. The prosecutor, Insp. Adegoke Philip told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Dec. 8 at Agidingbi, Ikeja. A Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a household, Simon Jerry, to one year in prison for stealing a mobile phone valued at N264,000 from his boss. Jerry, who resides at One-Man Village, Nasarawa State, was sentenced on a count charge of theft, an offence he admitted committing. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Muhammed, however, gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine and another N95,000 as compensation for the stolen phone. An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday sentenced a civil engineer, Olakunle Azeez, to one-year in prison for cyber-crime or Yahoo Yahoo. Justice Sherifat Solebo, sentenced Azeez who is a father of three. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Azeez with cyber-crime. The trial of a Lagos-based prophet, Cletus Ilongwo, charged with N49.6 million fraud in an Ikeja Special Offences Court was on Monday stalled following the absence of an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness. A 23-year-old man, Godswill Agu, on Monday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing electrical wires worth N1.8 million. A 25-year-old Uber driver, Shuaibu Babatunde, who allegedly absconded with his employer’s Toyota Corolla, valued at N2 million on Monday appeared in a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. NIMC enrols over 2m people in Kano state
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it has so far enrolled over two million people in Kano state as of the end of December 2019. The Commission’s state Coordinator, Mr Mohammed Auwal-Sanusi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kano. “As of Dec. 31, 2019, we have enrolled 2, 016,987 people across the 44 local government areas of the state. “Lagos state is currently leading with the enrolment figure of 4.8 million people, followed by Kaduna state with 2.3 million people,” the coordinator said. The Niger state government has commenced the formation of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for Minna and Suleja cities to make them equitable, socially inclusive, engaging, resilient and self-sustaining cities.
