The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Oyo State says it seized 3,688.5kg illicit drugs and secured 71 convictions in the state between January and November. The NDLEA State Commander, Mrs Josephine Obi, made the disclosure on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan. Obi said that the agency also destroyed 40 and 0.28 hectares of cannabis farmland at Aba Tade in Oluyole Local Government Area and Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area respectively. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Cross River has arrested two suspects for selling gas at the Calabar carnival village. Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Mr Danjuma Elisha, who paraded the suspects on Thursday in Calabar, said they were arrested on Dec. 4. 15th All Nigerian Editors’ Conference (ANEC) held in Sokoto, were unanimous in their rejection and condemnation of the Hate Speech Bill before the Senate. They said that the bill was unnecessary, as everything needed to punish perpetrators of hate speech was taken care of by extant laws and legislations. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said that Nigeria’s higher education sector was overburdened by population growth.
