The Federal High Court in Lagos has awarded N1m against the Federal Government over the police disruption of the August 5, 2019, #RevolutionNow protest. The court awarded the N1m in favour of a Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, who said he participated in the protest and was among those tear-gassed by security agents. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says more than 82.9 million Nigerians are poor by national standards. The NBS made this known in its report on Poverty and Inequality in Nigeria 2019, released on Monday. It explained that the figure showed that 40.1 per cent of the total population was classified as poor, adding that in other words, an average of four out of 10 individuals in Nigeria had real per capita expenditures below N137,430.00 per year. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has disclosed that it is desperately in need of testing kits. NCDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu said the agency was desperately in need of RNA extraction kits. Ihekweazu explained that the RNA extraction kits would help the agency expand COVID-19 testing capacity. He made the disclosure via his verified Twitter handle.
